Yearbooks

Sebasticook Valley Middle School Yearbooks will be available for sale on or about June 11th. The estimated cost of the yearbooks will be less than ten dollars.

8th Grade Job Shadowing

On Tuesday, June 10th, 8th graders will be participating in a day of job shadowing. Any 8th grader who is participating in this day must insure that their paperwork is in to your homeroom teacher by Friday, June 6th. Any student not choosing to participate in a job shadowing experience will have a regular day of classes.

Softball/Baseball Season Continues

The Sebasticook Wildcats played at home against Warsaw and both the softball and baseball teams were victorious. On Thursday afternoon they traveled to Bucksport to play a non-league game. The girl’s softball lost their game and the boy’s baseball won. The playoffs for the A-Teams are scheduled for Saturday, June 7th. The softball team will travel to Howland and the baseball playoffs will be at Sebasticook. Currently, the girls are in first place and the boys are in second.

SPEAR

SPEAR is a new group here at Sebasticook. The letters stand for Students Preparing for Education and Responsibility. It is responsible for helping students explore colleges while they are at SVMS. The group encourages students to have a top ten list of colleges before going on to high school as well as how to pay for college. This will help students pay more attention to what they want to do when they are older. Watch for more articles regarding SPEAR in the future.

Repair and Rehabilitation Program

The school office has information regarding Grant Programs through USDA regarding assistance to the elderly and low income families for home improvements and repairs and/or removing health and safety hazards in homes.

Science Fair Awards

The eighth grade Science Fair was a huge success as the gym was filled with many outstanding projects. The winners were as follows: Overall Winner – Kerri Guesman, Life Science First Runner up – Cody Hopkins, Life Science Second Runner up – Amanda Travers; Physical Science First Place – Mary Badeen, Physical Science First Runner up – Sara Leonard, and Physical Science Second Runner up – Amanda Erskine.

Eighth Grade Writers Recognized

A number of eighth grade students have been recognized for their writing. Three student essays were chosen for recognition in a contest honoring Ben Kuroki, a World War II hero. Alyssa Gadeberg’s essay was chosen for first place. Roxanne Pitcher’s and Brynn Cardozo’s were chosen as runners-up. Alysssa received a $50 prize.

Several eighth grade students have written and submitted poems which have been accepted for publication. Svea Ashe, Josh Bowden, Brittany Dunton, Andraya Fickett, and Rachel Riel-Oliver will have their poems published in “A Celebration of Young Poets”. Congratulations to all these young writers.!!!

Sebasticook Dress Code

Our Parent/Student Handbook contains an acceptable dress code that teachers attempt to enforce each and every year. As fashions as well as individual tastes change, the school attempts to be consistent while enforcing the rules. The goal of our dress code is to insure that each and every student appears appropriately dressed and in good taste. Please take time to review the dress code and discuss it with your children, and if you do have question, do not hesitate to call.

Softball/Baseball Season Continues

The Sebasticook softball and baseball B-Teams both won their games yesterday against Dexter. The A-Teams play against Hichborn of Howland tomorrow, game time 11:00 AM. Next week the A-Teams have four games beginning on Tuesday at Sedomocha in Dover-Foxcroft. Wednesday they are away at Somerset, Thursday they play Brewer under the lights in Brewer, and Friday they are home against Greenville.

Ultimate Warrior Week

From July 7tt through July 11th, a basketball clinic will be hosted at Nokomis Regional High School. Students entering grades 3-12 are encouraged to sign-up if you wish to improve your basketball skills. Each grade level has a different time of day to attend. The cost of the week-long clinic is $50.00, which includes the cost of a t-shirt. Registration forms are in the school office.

Youth Archery Tournament

On Saturday, May 24th, a Youth Archery Tournament will be conducted at Nokomis H. S. for students in grades 5-12. Registration is at 9:00AM.

Spring Art Show/Vocal Concert

Sebasticook Valley Middle School will be hosting a Spring Art Show on Wednesday, May 14th from 5:00 – 6:45 PM. At 7:00 PM, the music department will be hosting a vocal concert in the gym.

The Sebasticook softball and baseball teams continued their season this week with games against Central, Piscataquis and Penquis of Milo. The softball team has only one loss in four games resulting in an impressive 3-1 record. The baseball team remains undefeated with a perfect 4-0 record. Also, the B-Team softball one their single game and the B-Team baseball won both of their games. Next week’s games include Warsaw at home on Monday and Dexter away on Thursday. B-Team baseball has a game at Somerset on Tuesday.

Youth Archery Tournament

On Saturday, May 24th, a Youth Archery Tournament will be conducted at Nokomis H. S. for students in grades 5-12. Registration is at 9:00AM.

Eighth Grades Pictures

All Eighth Graders are scheduled to have their pictures taken on Tuesday, May 6th. There will be no retakes scheduled. This picture will be taken in Sebasticook jackets and we ask that the students wear either a white turtle neck or collared shirt. The picture is free to all students and it is placed in the certificate folder that is presented at the final assembly. Students will be able to purchase copies of the picture as well as a panoramic picture of the entire class. If you have questions or would like to see the folders and certificate, please stop by the office.

Softball/Baseball Season Opens

The Sebasticook softball and baseball teams open their season this past Monday afternoon by hosting Central of East Corinth. Both teams won their season opener. The Wednesday’s game against Grenville was postponed due to field conditions and has been rescheduled for May 23rd. On Friday, May 2nd, the teams travel to Dexter.


Sebasticook Library Online

DID YOU KNOW??? The Sebasticook Valley Middle School Library Catalog is online. Just go to the school page and scroll down to the media center. From the media center page, click on Destiny (our catalog system) and then on catalog. This way our students and families can check out the titles that are available for their research needs or their reading pleasure. The students have been using Destiny since October. Please feel free to call the library with any questions or comments on this automated system.
