End of day Dismissals

If you have a change of plans for your child for afternoon dismissal (i.e., bus notes), please call BEFORE 2:00 p.m.

Early Dismissal

Students will be dismissed at approximately 11:50 on Thursday, December 23rd.


Basketball

The A and B teams won their games this week. Next week’s schedule is as follows: The A teams will travel to Guilford and the B teams will host Guilford at home on Tuesday, December 21st.

Holiday Grams

The Show Chorus is selling carnations again for the holiday season! These are available to both students and parents wishing to send carnations to anyone here at school. There is an order form attached and all orders must be turned into the office no later than Friday, December 17th.


Early Dismissal

Students will be dismissed at approximately noon on Thursday, December 23rd.

Snack Shack

The snack shack is in need of volunteers. There is a sign up sheet posted on the wall for those who would like to help.

Basketball

The A teams both won their games on Wednesday when they faced Penquis. This past Monday’s game against Sedomocha is rescheduled for January 4th.

The schedule for this coming week is as follows: The A teams will travel to Somerset on Wednesday, and will host Greenville on Thursday. The B teams will host Somerset on Wednesday and travel to Harmony on Thursday.

Maine Sampler

Information regarding the 8th Grade “Maine Sampler” is attached.

Wildcat Weekly for 11/05/10

Newport Recreation

Basketball and cheering sign ups for Newport Recreation Department will be for PreK thru 6th grade. You may sign up at the Newport Town Office through November 12th. Tryouts will be November 14th at the Newport Rec Building. Second thru 4th grade will tryout at 11:00 a.m., and 5th and 6th graders will tryout at 1:00 p.m. All RSU #19 students are welcome. Any parents wanting to help coach a team or volunteer to referee please call Mike Cote at 416-7798 or Adam Noyes at 341-3155.

Parent Conferences

Parent conferences will be hosted in November. Each grade level will be setting up their schedule and passing it along to parents. Keep in mind, you do not need to wait for parent conference time, if you are concerned about your child’s academics, feel free to visit teachers anytime. Simply call and make an appointment.

Title One

Mr. Curtis in Title 1 Math and the on-line algebra class, and Mrs. Curtis and Mrs. Guesman in Title 1 reading, will be available for conferences Monday, November 8 from 3-6 p.m.. If this time is inconvenient, parents may call the school to schedule a conference.

Round Robin

The A boys and girls basketball teams will be hosting a Round Robin Basketball Tournament here next Friday, November 12th from 3-9 p.m. and Saturday, November 13th from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The girls will play Friday at 3 and 7 and Saturday at 8, 10:40 and 2:40. The boys will play Friday at 3:40 and 7:40 and Saturday at 8:40, 11:20 and 3:20. There will be an admission fee and the snack shack will be open

Turkey Basket Raffle

The show chorus will be selling raffle tickets for a turkey basket which includes a 20lb turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, potatoes, etc. The tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. Please see a member to purchase a ticket.

Picture retakes will be held on November 10. If your child was absent on the original picture day, please have them pick up an order form in the office. If they would like retakes because they aren’t satisfied with the first picture, please be sure to return the package on retake day.

Wildcat Weekly ending 10-22-10

Scrappin’ For Kids

A reminder of the scrapbooking day, October 30. This will benefit the 8th grade classes of 2011 and 2012. It will be held here at school from 8-4.

Football

The football team will play at home against Warsaw on Tuesday.

End of First Quarter

October 29th marks the end of the first quarter. Make-up week will be the following week, November 1 through 5th. Students who need to complete their work for the first quarter or who wish to redo work that was not acceptable, may stay after school for any or all of the days that week. Failure to make-up work may mean failing for the quarter.

Parent Conferences

Wildcat Weekly for 10/08/10

7th & 8th Grade Parent Meeting

Parents of students in grades 7 and 8 must attend a meeting on Wednesday, October 13th at 6:00 p.m. in the Sebasticook gym. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the requirements that have been adopted by the RSU to allow 7th and 8th graders to take home their laptops. There will be a permission form that must be signed before the students are allowed to take the computers home.

Scrappin’ For Kids

A reminder of the scrapbooking day, October 30. This will benefit the 8th grade classes of 2011 and 2012. It will be held here at school from 8-4.

Corinna Rec

Sign ups for basketball will be held on Monday, October 11 at the Corinna Elem. School from 6:00-6:30 p.m. This is open to all boys and girls in grades 2-6 and who live in Corinna. This is only to sign up, practices/games will be scheduled later. If you would like to participate and live outside of Corinna, the cost is $20.00, or 2 children in the same family-$30.00

Medication Form

Please be sure to fill out the medication form attached to this newsletter if your child has medication that he/she takes here at school. This includes advil, Tylenol, cold medicine, etc. If your child has medication left over from last year, you still need to sign a new form for this year. A medication form is attached to this newsletter.

Soccer/Football/Field Hockey

The results of this weeks game were as follows: field hockey—1 win; girls soccer--1 win; boys soccer—1 win; football—2 wins. The B soccer teams will travel to Orono today. Our field hockey team will face PCMS tomorrow at 11:00 a.m., they are going into playoffs in first place. The schedule for next week is as follows: football—at Millinocket next Wednesday. If the field hockey team wins tomorrow they will play in the championship game on Wednesday, here at school at 3:30 p.m. Our girls soccer team finished in 4th place and will have a playoff game at Ridgeview School in Dexter on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

Fly Tying Class

The Newport Cultural Center is sponsoring Fly Tying classes for all age groups. The classes will start September 27 at 6 p.m. and end at 8 p.m. Classes will take place in the Cultural Center Conference Room. The classes will be held each Monday night until October 25. There will be no classes on Columbus Day. The registration fee is $25.00 and covers all materials that are used. Those who are interested in attending class must pre-register at the Cultural Center no later than September 23. Space is limited to 12. For more information contact Gene Staffiere at 368-2193.


Picture Day

School pictures will be taken September 29. Envelopes will be sent home the Monday before. Information regarding prices and package selections is attached to this newsletter.

Rec Soccer

The results of the games this week were:

  • Field Hockey—2 wins

The schedule for next week is as follows: field hockey—home against Dexter Tuesday, home against Sedomocha Thursday and at Orono Friday; soccer—at Hichborn on Thursday and home against Orono on Friday (B team only); football—home against Old Town Tuesday. Team pictures for all sports will be taken on Wednesday.

The Newport Cultural Center will be sponsoring its annual 5k Road Race Walk and 1 Mile Fun Run on Saturday, September 18. Registration begins at 9 a.m. at the Cultural Center. The Fun Run will begin at 10 a.m. and the 5k will begin at 10:30. There will be free t-shirts for the first 25 who register. Awards will be given to top finishers overall and by age group. For more information, contact Kelley Carter at 852-0647.

Dance

The Sports Boosters will be sponsoring a dance tonight, September 10, for grades 6-8 from 7-9 p.m. Admission is $5.00.


Open House

Open House will be Tuesday, September 14 from 6-7 p.m.


Show Chorus

Tryouts for Show Chorus will be held on Wednesday, September 15th from 3-5 p.m. Those wanting to audition can either stay after school or have someone bring them to school during that time. Transportation home after the tryouts needs to be provided. If you want to try out but cant make it during that time, please leave your name in the office.

Sign ups for the Spring Ball Program are now being accepted through March 24th at the Center. General sign ups are being held at the Center on March 20th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. A parents meeting will be held in the dance room upstairs with the coaches afterwards to discuss placement. Final date for signing up is March 24.

Help support our Sebasticook Valley Middle School Show Chorus! The Show Chorus is selling maroon and white t-shirts for $10.00. Attached is an order form. Return the form and payment to the office.

The Corinna Rec Dept will be holding softball signups for grades 3-6 on April 7th at 6:00 p.m. at the Corinna Elementary School. This will be for signups only.

Memory Quilt
In honor of our military families in Maine, we are preparing to create a Memory Quilt. If you have a photo (sent digitally works well) of a military member that you would like to have included, please email it to kmitchell@rsu19.org or send in the photo and we can scan it here and return it to you. This quilt will become part of our hallway display when it is finished. We would like photos as soon as possible so that we can get this project underway, but will accept them until April vacation (April 15).

On Saturday March 20, SVMS is hosting the first College Knowledge Bowl. In the morning, several elementary school teams will be competing for the Championship title, followed by the middle schools in the afternoon. There will be three preliminary rounds followed by a championship round for each level. The elementary schools begin at 8:30 a.m. with the final round at 10:30 a.m. Then, after lunch, the middle schools begin at 1:00 p.m. and have their championship round at 3:00 p.m. We have two teams involved as well as one from Somerset. The public is welcome to attend this event to cheer on our students. If anyone would like to help out with the event, please contact Mrs. Mitchell at kmitchell@rsu19.org or 368-4592.

Wildcat Weekly for 3/12/10

Corinna Rec
Corinna Rec Dept will be holding indoor soccer sign up on March 17 at the Corinna Elementary School. Grades 3 & 4 will be from 5-6 p.m., and grades 5 & 6 will be from 6-7 p.m. Please bring your sneakers and be prepared to play. If you do not reside in Corinna you may participate for a fee of $20.00.

Heritage Tour Meeting
The last Heritage Tour meeting will be Tuesday, March 16 at 6:00 p.m. for team leaders and 7:00 p.m. for students and parents. The Heritage Tour will be from Monday, March 29 thru Sunday, April 4.
