Wildcat Weekly ending 10-16-09

NECAP
Students will continue testing for the next week. Please remember to try to schedule appointments after school and have your student here on time!

Flu Vaccinations
It appears that we will be receiving H1N1 Influenza Vaccine before the seasonal influenza vaccination. Right now, 99% of the flu cases seen have been H1N1. As a result, vaccination companies have shifted their focus on to getting the H1N1 vaccines into the hands of healthcare professionals. This has caused a delay in the shipment of seasonal influenza vaccination, but in return, an abundance of H1N1 vaccinations. We will be offering the H1N1 vaccination free of charge for all school age children during the school day. Children ages six months through 24 years of age are a priority population for this vaccination. Children through nine years of age should get two doses of vaccine, about a month apart. We will offer both doses here at school. Older children and adults only need one dose. We will only give shots to those children that have returned a completed permission slip for the H1N1 vaccination to their school (please disregard the first permission slip you may have returned, the form is different for H1N1). Permission slips will be coming home within the next few weeks. Vaccines are available to protect against disease. This vaccine is made just like seasonal influenza flu vaccines. They are as safe and effective as seasonal influenza vaccines. However, it will not prevent seasonal flu. We will still offer seasonal influenza vaccinations as they become available. If you have any questions, please contact our School Health Coordinator at 278-4263 or ptownsend@rsu19.org
